Karim Sayad, a young Swiss-Algerian director in attendance with his debut feature film, won the prestigious Prix de Soleure at Solothurn Film Festival, conquering a jury seduced by his film Of Sheep and Men [+see also:

, defined as a complete work of art: "The film is an experience of joy and completeness in an absolutely convincing global form." The film tells the story of life in the Bab Al-Oued Algiers district, where time is punctuated by fascinating yet cruel ram fights. The award comes with 60,000 Swiss Francs, provided by the Prix de Soleure Fund, the Canton and the city of Solothurn. The prize money will be divided equally between the director and producer (Close Up Films).

The Audience Award went to Bernard Weber (also winning the Audience Award at Solothurn in 2012 for No Business Like Show Business) in attendance with Of the Voice [+see also:

, a story that focuses on four characters who have made their voices their working instruments and their passion. The director and producer (Artisans Films) will share the 20,000 Swiss Francs awarded with the prize. Of the Voice is due to be released on 8 February in cinemas in the German-speaking region of Switzerland and will be distributed by Xenix.

Seraina Rohrer, director of Solothurn Film Festival, was very pleased with the 53rd edition of the festival, which attracted 63,000 attendees over the course of its eight-day run.
