Now aged 70, the great José Luis Cuerda, the acclaimed director of cult films such as Dawn Breaks, Which Is No Small Thing and El bosque animado, has blissfully placed himself behind the camera once again for seven weeks. He has been in Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha shooting his new film, principal photography for which wrapped eight days ago. Some Time After [+see also:

The cast of Some Time After is just as dazzling, comprising Roberto Álamo, Blanca Suárez, Arturo VallsMiguel Rellán, Manolo Solo, Antonio de la Torre, Secun de la Rosa, Andreu Buenafuente, Berto Romero, Daniel Pérez Prada, Raúl Cimas, Joaquín Reyes, Eva Hache and Carlos Areces. The screenplay, written by Cuerda based on his novel of the same name, reunites us with his peculiar vision of the world and the absurd humour of his first few films: “When I began writing this story, I was convinced, with my abundant good judgement, that, if I took a huge leap into the future and used my imagination, I could set the madcap events in the year 9177, give or take a thousand years, so as not to get myself boxed in. Anyone can picture how things will be at that time, and whether or not there will be sparrows and potato omelettes. I chose the Whole. The Whole is exceptionally fertile material,” declared the four-time Goya winner: two for screenwriting (Butterfly’s Tongue and The Blind Sunflowers) and the other two as a producer (of Thesis and The Others).

The synopsis sets the action in that futuristic universe, at a time when the entire world has been reduced to a sole Representative Building and some filthy suburbs inhabited by all of the unemployed and starving people in the cosmos. One of these poor wretches, José María, decides that, despite the obstacles that need to be overcome, another world is possible – and he intends to prove this by selling a lip-smacking homemade lemonade in the Representative Building.

Some Time After is being produced by Tiempo después AIE, Estela FilmsPólvora FilmsLanube PelículasEl Terrat and Planar Gestao de Equipamientos Cinematográficos, with the involvement of Atresmedia CineEntertainment OneMovistar Plus+, the Council of Castilla-La Mancha and Castilla La Mancha Media. It will be distributed by Entertainment One Films Spain (eOne Films).
