Headed up by Xavier García Puerto, the 17th edition of the REC – Tarragona International Film Festival kicks off on Monday 4 December, and will unspool until Sunday 10th. Standing out from among all its sections and reflecting the true spirit of the event is Opera Prima, a competition that, as its name suggests, brings together the most outstanding debuts from the last few months.  by Benjamin Renner and Patrick Imbert. “My First Time” will introduce a curious public to three works made during different decades by maestro Pere Portabella.

On Friday 8 December, the gathering will host a professional conference, entitled “Women on Fire. Women in the European Audiovisual Industry”, where seasoned professionals will analyse the reasons behind the disappointing lack of presence of females in fields such as film screenwriting, production and direction.

In the fourth iteration of the “Primer Test” section, directors and producers of film projects at the post-production stage will benefit from expert advice from distributors, festival programmers and international sales agents to ensure that their upcoming films get off to the best possible start.
