According to the CNC’s estimates, 104.94 million admissions were recorded in France in the first half of 2017, or 1.8% less than during the same period in 2016. In June, 11.91 million viewers visited movie theatres in France, a figure that is almost identical (down 0.1%) to the corresponding one from last year. Nevertheless, despite the overall level of movie-theatre attendance in the country still being very high (211.12 million admissions have been sold over the past 12 months), we should point out that five of the first six months in 2017 were marked by a decrease compared to 2016 (down 1% in January, down 4.3% in February, down 1.6% in March and down 9% in May), with only April bucking the trend, as it was up 5.1%.

As for market shares, French movies represented 36.3% of the admissions from the first half of 2017 (38.5% for the same period last year), as against 50.6% for US productions and 13.1% for features from elsewhere (which are clearly gaining traction).
