, the second film by Maria Sadowska, premiered in Poland on 27 January and was released in 312 theatres; so far, it has taken over 1.7 million admissions, making it the most popular film in the country this year. The runners-up in the annual Polish box-office figures are Sing, Fifty Shades Darker and La La Land.

The movie follows the life of Michalina Wisłocka, a gynaecologist and sexologist, and a pioneer of sex studies and sex education in Poland. Her book A Practical Guide to Marital Bliss (originally titled Sztuka kochania in Polish, the literal English translation of the title being The Art of Loving) was published in 1978 and sparked major controversy in communist Poland. The works of Wisłocka are often compared to those of Virginia Johnson and Dr William Masters.

The film was presented during the 12th CentEast Market Warsaw in October 2016 and screened at the European Film Market at the 67th Berlinale. Its Polish distributor is Next Film, while the international sales are handled by Belgian-French firm Be for Films.

The Art of Loving’s commercial success continues the lucky streak for Polish cinema. In 2016, the two most popular films were local titles Pitbull: Dangerous Women [+see also:
