in Un Certain Regard in 2014). Currently in pre-production, his new project centres on the character of famous French singer Barbara (1930-1997). This will be no mere biopic, however, with the screenplay (co-written by the director and Philippe Di Folco) focusing on the story of a director who wants to make a film about Barbara, instead. The two protagonists will be portrayed by Mathieu Amalric, himself, and Jeanne Balibar. Produced by Patrick Godeau for Waiting For Cinéma, the feature film will be made on a budget of €8.6 million, including a partnership with Wild Bunch, among others. 42 of the 54 days of principal photography will unspool in the Ile-de-France region, with it also supporting the film through a €419,000 grant.

La Douleur by Emmanuel Finkiel, the 45-day shoot of which is about to wrap, has also been selected. An adaptation of Marguerite Duras’ life, the film’s script (penned by the director), which will be brought to life by a cast featuring Mélanie Thierry and Benoît Magimel, takes place in 1944. France is under Nazi occupation and writer Robert Antelme, a prominent Resistance figure, has been arrested and sent to Buchenwald. This is just the beginning of an intolerable wait for his wife, Marguerite Duras, a slow and silent agony set against the chaos of the Liberation of Paris... As a reminder, Emmanuel Finkiel directed Voyages (Winner of the 1999 Louis-Delluc Prize and the 2000 César Award for Best First Film), Nulle part terre promise [+see also:
