06/10/2016 - Brussels will host a series of events that will be organised with the involvement of MEPs and key figures on the European cinema scene

The European Parliament’s LUX Prize will celebrate its tenth anniversary on 10 October in Brussels, with a series of events that will be organised with the involvement of MEPs, key figures on the European cinema scene, directors of films honoured by the LUX Prize, journalists and European film buffs. Several activities are being planned to mark this special day.

The Committee on Culture and Education will host and co-organise an exchange of views, streamed live on europarl.eu and TV channel ARTE’s website, with inspiring filmmakers who contributed to shaping European cultural and emotional assets. “What Role for European Cinema in Tomorrow’s Europe?”, starting at 17.00, will feature an introduction by chairwoman of the Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) Silvia Costa, a keynote speech by two-time Palme d’Or winner Ken Loach, and an exchange of views with the participation of LUX Film Prize-selected directors Céline Sciamma (Girlhood [+see also:

film profile], 2012 LUX Prize winner), moderated by LUX Film Prize coordinator Doris Pack. The participants will tackle the European agenda on cultural policy, the impact of European cinema on raising topical and societal issues, and the way European cinema reflects the need for a better and fairer society. 

An exhibition in Brussels’ Parlamentarium will also celebrate this very special date: First Vice-President of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani and Silvia Costa will inaugurate the installation, organised with the European Film Agency Directors (EFADs), dedicated to the first ten years of the LUX Prize and open until 31 December.

Finally, the celebration will come to an end with another unique event – a simultaneous screening of 2015 LUX Prize winner Mustang [+see also:
