Following the death of her mother, six-year-old Frida has to face her first summer with her adoptive family. During those first few months together in the countryside, they will gradually start to find out more about each other: the parents must learn to love her like a daughter, and she seemingly accepts the situation, as she starts to call them Mum and Dad. However, the little girl finds it harder to accept her new sister, despite the fact that she loves her right from the get-go. Frida’s conflicting emotions mean that all four of them will have to mould their relationship and create a true household. Summer 1993 [+see also:

), Bruna Cusí, Fermi Reixach, Laia Artigues and Paula Robles, Verano 1993 is a production by Barcelona-based independent company Inicia Films, in conjunction with Avalon PC and with a co-production by French outfit Les Contes Modernes. It has backing from the ICAA and ICEC, and is benefiting from the involvement of TVE. The screenplay was selected for the SGAE Awards, took part in the CIMA workshop and received advice from MEDIA’s Sources programme.

“Right from the start, we were clear about the fact that this movie falls into the same category as other projects that are able to enjoy great prestige at festivals; that’s why we’ve taken great care over it and taken it to rendezvous of major importance on the international stage over the last couple of years: Berlinale Talents (in the Script Station in 2015) and the Co-Production Market in 2016, the Workshops meeting at Premiers Plans in Angers, the Ekran programme in Poland, we won the Award for Best Project at the Holland Film Meeting, and we have just presented it to the CNC’s World Cinema Support, thanks to our French co-producer, Les Contes Modernes,” remarks María Zamora, executive producer at Avalon PC.
