- The CNC is organising a number of events at the 69th Cannes Film Festival in order to discuss the future of the film industry

The CNC announces its events at Cannes

On the occasion of the 69th Cannes Film Festival, the CNC is organising a number of events from 12-20 May, at the Gray d'Albion beach. The events will tackle topics such as virtual reality, the possibilities for co-production with France, new models for film distribution and marketing, and many other issues concerning the future development of the film industry.

On Thursday 12 May, two discussions will take place: “What Role for Artistic Agents Today and Tomorrow?” and “Virtual Reality: A New Frontier for Cinema”, a presentation of the first edition of the Paris Virtual Film Festival, organised in partnership with the Forum des Images. On Friday 13 May, there will be a panel discussion about international co-production with China, organised in partnership with Bridging the Dragon and the Film Market (read more about it here). On Saturday 14 May, “Le Rendez-vous du CNC” takes place, and that same day, a discussion entitled “A French Ambition for Digital Visual Effects” will be held, including Jean Gaillard’s progress report on visual effects.

A press conference will unspool on Sunday 15 May on the topic “Can Cultural Diversity Flourish Without Territoriality?”, where the results from an exclusive study will be presented. On Monday 16 May, in partnership with Film France, the discussion “Working with France” has been organised, which will comprise a presentation of international tax credits and co-productions with France. That same day, there will be a CNC/SACD meeting on “Cinema, Television and New Screens: Towards the New Rules of the Game?”. On Wednesday 18 May, there are two events: “LaCinétek: Meeting and Exchanging Ideas with Filmmakers” and a discussion on the “New Distribution Models and Marketing on the VoD Market”. On Thursday 19 May, the topic of financing films by emerging talents will be discussed, and the final event will be a round-table on Friday 20 May, under the title “Cinema, Diversity and Minorities: An International Perspective”.

The CNC also has a strong presence at the Cannes Film Festival through its financial support for production: 29 features (18 of which were first or second films) that received this backing are set to be unveiled in the various selections of the gathering (read more).
