In the First and Second Works section, the jury, chaired by director Andrea Segre and made up of 30 viewers selected by him, gave the Ettore Scola Award for the Director of the Best Film to Gabriele Mainetti for his extremely popular film about a working-class superhero (which also has 16 nominations for the upcoming David di Donatello Awards – read the news). In the Nuove proposte cinema italiano (“New Proposals of Italian Film”) section, the jury of audience members chaired by film critic Dana Duma handed the Francesco Laudadio Award for the Director of the Best Film to Andrea D’Ambrosio for Due euro l'ora [+see also:

film profile], a movie that also snagged the Award for Best Actress, for Chiara Baffi, from Artisti 7607 (the Italian Artists’ Cooperative). Meanwhile, the Artisti 7607 Award for Best Actor went to Andrea Vasone for The Plastic Cardboard Sonata by Enrico Falcone and Piero Persello.
The seventh edition of the Bif&st, which, it was confirmed, will continue to be supervised by Felice Laudadio until 2020, welcomed 75,000 viewers (2,000 more than last year) to 290 events, including screenings and meetings, and hosted 300 film-industry guests, including 55 directors, and 62 actors and actresses. Promoted by the Puglia Region and the Apulia Film Commission, the festival’s budget was €1.1 million, in addition to the €70,000 made available by the SIAE for the tribute to Ettore Scola.
The next edition of the Bif&st will pay tribute to Vittorio Gassman, reinstate its international section with around 15 titles, and dedicate a retrospective to a great living American actor or actress. Furthermore, the 2017 Bif&st will focus on the theme of environmental protection, featuring meetings and discussions about film and science. Lastly, one of the novelties being lined up for next year is a twinning with the Annecy Italian Film Festival, directed by Jean Gili.
