Thessaloniki reveals full line-up

Revealing its full line-up on Tuesday, the Thessaloniki Film Festival entered the final stretch towards curtain call on November 1, with Jim Jarmusch set to present Cannes-screened Only Lovers Left Alive [+see also:

as the fest’s opening film. Alexander Payne’s Nebraska will be the closing film on November 10, rounding out a selection fest director Dimitri Eipides dubbed subversive.

will spearhead the low presence of 8 local titles in this year’s fest (as opposed to last year’s 14 Greek features). The two Toronto-screened debuts will represent Greece in the fest’s competition section, while Swedish Karlovy Vary winner Bluebird and French Locarno winner Sheep [+see also:

, will also be among the 14 films vying for the Golden Alexander prize.

Konstantinos Koutsoliotas’ crowd-funded Greco-British coproduction The Winter will be having its world premiere at the fest’s Greek section, as will Thessaloniki’s DigitalWave winner Vasilis Raisis (a now-discontinued section), who’s returning with dramedy One Last Joke. and Toronto-screened fusion-western Sitting Aside, Watching, are expected to be the section’s hottest tickets.

French cinema will be honoured at this year’s edition with Claire Simon and Alain Guiraudie, both visiting Thessaloniki as their work is spotlighted by the fest, while modern Argentinean cinema will be showcased via films indicative of the country’s filmography. The fest’s Balkan section will feature Romanian director Corneliu Parumbiou’s Metabolism [+see also:

and Vinko Bressan’s The Priests’ Children with the directors at hand to present, while this year’s three LUX prize contenders will be screened during the fest, with Valeria Golino attending as a guest of honour.
