Sehr and Noëlle bring Ludwig II back onto big screen

by

While Germany is about to celebrate (on June 13) the 125th anniversary of the mysterious and tragic death of Ludwig II of Bavaria, also known as "the fairy tale king", and sometimes "the mad king", Peter Sehr and his wife Marie Noëlle (who co-directed the 2008 film The Anarchist’s Wife [+see also:

Scripted by the two co-directors, Ludwig II will look, in all its complexity, at the brighter side of the Bavarian king’s personality, his youth and his faith in music and art as paths to a better life. Twenty-seven-year-old newcomer Sabin Tambrea will play the lead role, alongside former Shooting Star Hannah Herzsprung as Ludwig’s longstanding friend Sissi (played by Romy Schneider in Visconti’s version), Edgar Selge as Richard Wagner, the king’s favourite musician, and Justus von Dohnányi as politician Johann von Lutz.

The project is produced by Bavaria Pictures. Shooting will start at the end of July and continue until mid-November in Bavaria, Austria and Bavaria Studios.

Warner Bros plans to launch the film on German and Austrian screens in December 2012.
