iFeatures, also backed by BBC Films and the Bristol City Council, attracted 550 project submissions from across the UK, with these being whittled down to twelve, then six, and finally three through a nine month development process. Mentors included Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire [+see also:

First up amongst the three chosen projects, to be made on a budget of £300,000 each, is ghost story The Dark Half by Alastair Siddons (Turn It Loose), for Bard Entertainments, co-financed by Film Agency for Wales.

Next up is twisted romantic comedy Eight Minutes Idle by Mark Simon Hewis and Sarah Cox, co-financed by the UK Film Council.

Finally, political thriller Flying Blind by Kasia Klimkiewicz for Ignition Films. All three projects are co-produced and co-financed by Matador Pictures.

The BBC has acquired the UK Free TV rights to all three films, and ContentFilm International has taken on worldwide sales for the slate.

iFeatures Executive Producer Chris Moll says: “The fact that we’ve been able to elicit significant financial investment from both the public and private sectors at such a time of great uncertainty demonstrates the exceptional quality of the work that has come through the scheme as well as a shared commitment from South West Screen and all the partners involved to nurture the UK’s next wave of cinematic talent.”
