Orly takes off at Ludwigshafen

The 6th Ludwigshafen German Film Festival (June 16-27) presented its main prize, the Art of Film Award (Filmkunstpreis, worth €50,000) to Angela Schanelek’s French/German co-production Orly [+see also:

, which was shown in the Forum section at the Berlinale in February (see review).

The jury, comprising film director Helma Sanders-Brahms, producer Roman Paul and critic Wolfram Schütte, rewarded the film for the irony and subtlety with which it presents slices of life and poetic human moments in an anonymous place of waiting. Orly will be released on German screens on October 21 by Piffl.

The Audience Award was shared by Dietrich Brüggemann’s Run If You Can and Claus Wischmann and Martin Baer’s Kinshasa Symphony [+see also:

Two of the other Art of Film awards (which don’t come with cash prizes) went to a title shown in official competition at the Berlinale, Burhan Qurbani’s Faith [+see also:

Finally, the Filmkunstpreis for Best Individual Performance went to Robert Gwisdek for his role in Brüggemann’s film.
