Desperados wins Golden Olive Tree and Cineuropa Prize in Lecce

The 11th European Film Festival of Lecce, directed by Alberto La Monica and Cristina Soldano, drew to a close on April 18.

This year’s edition featured, among others, stars such as Carlo Verdone, Cristiana Capotondi, Michele Riondino, Laura Chiatti, Christian De Sica and Susanna Nicchiarelli, as well as the actors and directors of the competition films.

The international jury – comprising Andrea Crisanti, Julia Taylor-Stanley, Yvon Thiec and Bruno Torri – gave the top prize, the Golden Olive Tree for Best Film, by majority vote to Tomasz Emil Rudzik’s Desperados on the Block [+see also:

(Germany - see news) "for the originality and freshness with which a multi-ethnic environment is portrayed, emphasising young people’s feeling of uneasiness."

Desperados also won the Cineuropa Prize, presented by Crisanti, dean of the National Film School, "for its attention to the issues of integration and intercultural relations in Third Millennium Europe of which the film is a focusing, partaken metaphor”.

Rudzik’s film moreover picked up FIPRESCI Prize.

The Special Jury Prize went ex aequo to Igor Sterk’s 9:06 [+see also:

(Slovenia/Germany) “for the stylistic rigour with which an extreme human story is told"; and Me Too [+see also:

(Spain) by Antonio Naharro and Álvaro Pastor "for the delicacy with which a very important theme, that of diversity, is dealt with, emphasising the positive evolution of the main character.".

Best Cinematography went to Simon Tansek for 9:06 while Best Screenplay was awarded to Guy Hibbert for Five Minutes of Heaven [+see also:

The National Film Journalists Union, presided by Laura Delli Colli, gave the Best European Actor Award to Michel Piccoli, for his performance in Laurent Perreau’s Restless [+see also:
