Ten titles in competition at Crossing Europe

The seventh edition of the Crossing Europe Film Festival kicks off April 20 in Linz, Austria with four opening films: Jasmila Žbanić's On the Path [+see also:

and Alexei Popogrebsky's How I Ended This Summer, both Berlinale titles, as well as Johnnie To's thriller Vengeance [+see also:

and Oliver Stangl and Christian Tod's documentary of the Linz music scene, Es Muss was Geben.

The European Cinema Competition features 10 debut or second films: UK actress Samantha Morton will introduce Linz audiences to her directorial debut, The Unloved, a deeply personal account of a young girl struggling to survive in a hostile world.

German director Franz Müller will present Wallace Line, in which a romance between two single parents is shaken when their adult children fall in love with each other.

Turkish director Pelin Esmer will attend the festival with his film 10 to 11, which tells the story of two men in Istanbul who involuntarily change each other's fate. Also set in Istanbul is Asli Özge's Men on the Bridge [+see also:

based on the lives of its actors.

, directed by Zvonimir Jurić and Goran Dević, about a troop of soldiers on an illicit mission.

follows a handful of characters whose lives intersect in a prison visiting room. Séverine Cornamusaz's Animal Heart concerns an Alpine farmer who learns difficult lessons about love when his wife falls ill.

focuses on a divorced mother's attempts to hold her life together after she loses her job. Bobby Păunescu's Francesca [+see also:

tells the story of a Romanian teacher who is lured to Italy with the promise of a high-paying job.

All told, the Crossing Europe program includes 117 features, documentaries and shorts from 25 countries. Crossing Europe runs April 20–25.
