The 10th Spanish Film Week kicked off yesterday in Warsaw. It will be held until March 31 in the Polish capital and tomorrow will go on tour in five other large cities in Poland: Krakow, Łódź, Katowice, Poznań and Gdańsk.

The main programme includes ten narrative features and six documentaries. The event will open with Antonio Naharro and Álvaro Pastoro’s Me Too, which received four Goya 2010 nominations. Spanish Film Week will close with Woman Without Piano [+see also:

The line-up also includes several recent Spanish co-productions, such as Antonio del Real’s The El Escorial Conspiracy, Vicente Peñarrocha’s Guantanamero [+see also:

Special events include a retrospective of one of today’s stars of Spanish cinema, Javier Bardem.

Meanwhile, the "10th anniversary: best Spanish films" section will present six films which won acclaim during their festival run, including Icíar Bollaín’s Mataharis (six Goya nominations in 2008); José Luis Guerín’s En Construcción (“Under Construction”, Goya for Best Documentary in 2002, Special Jury Prize and FIPRESCI Prize at San Sebastian); and Tapas by José Corbacho and Juan Cruz (Goya for Best Debut Film in 2006, Best Film and Audience Award at Malaga, Best Screenplay at Montreal).

The Cine Forum will organise debates to accompany film screenings. Participants will include Álvaro Pastoro, Pablo Pineda, Raúl de la Fuente, Gaizka Urresti, Ventura Durall and Miguel Angel Escudero.

Spanish Film Week is a unique opportunity for Polish audiences to discover quality films from this part of Europe, the great majority of which will never enjoy wide distribution in Poland.

The event is organised by the Spanish Embassy, the Cervantes Institute in Warsaw and AP Mañana (Polish distributor of auteur films), in cooperation with the Polish Filmmakers Association.
