film profile] (see review) by Austria’s Rainer Frimmel and Italian director Tizza Covi won the Europa Cinemas Label Award for Best European Film presented in the 41st Directors’ Fortnight at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival.
Produced by the filmmakers through their Vento Film, the feature is sold internationally by France’s Films Distribution.
According to the jury of four European exhibitors, unanimous winner La Pivellina "is a film with a big heart, which takes a generous, unpretentious and optimistic look at those on the margins of our society, without morally judging them. The directors’ experience in documentaries gives the film realistic credibility, drawing viewers into its world, whilst fully involving them. The acting is superb. The universal themes and human warmth of cross-generational relationships explored in the film will have a real impact on audiences in European theatres."
