"I'm not scared of anyone"

- The Italian film producer is a guest at the Italia Cinema space in Cannes and talks about his past, present and above all his future

We all thought that Silvio Berlusconi was Vittorio Cecchi Gori’s “Grand Inquisitor” but the Italian producer contradicted that opinion at today’s press conference in the Italia Cinema Pavilion in Cannes. Here is what Cecchi Gori had to say about his past, present and future.

His films. “I will return to producing films: in fact I never stopped. There’s a new project with Carlo Verdone, as well as films by Vanzina brothers, Ricky Tognazzi, Simona Izzo, Paolo Virzì, Francesca Archibugi, Antonio Albanese and Gianni Amelio,” he announced as well as two intensely personal projects. “Enzo D’Alù is to direct a film written by me, a cartoon about the birth of Christ called “The Shepherds’ Song”. I have also decided to make a film about my life and the tribulations and persecution I’ve endured. And I will name names: I’m not scared of anyone.” Asked will star, the producer said “Search me? Or Valeria and I, or dear journalists, if you can suggest anyone else, I’m listening.”

The crash of his company. “They destroyed me to make money. The political climate allowed them to steal everything I owned. I had a healthy company that lots of people found most attractive. So they stole it.” Benigni: “America decided to destroy him. They launched Pinocchio [+see also:

as though it were a film for children, with advertising in toy stores, and all the while they knew full-well that they were leading the film to the slaughterhouse. They did that because Benigni refused to sign American contracts. And punished him for it.”

Nanni Moretti. “He uses cinema, and Cannes too, for political reasons. He is making a mistake: he should respect the Italian Prime Minister. And let me say once and for all that Berlusconi is not the thief who stole my televisions.” So who is?
