THE OLD MAN WHO READ LOVE STORIES

by Rolf De Heer

synopsis

Widower Antonio Bolivar lives alone in a village so small, the dentist comes only twice a year: to pull teeth and deliver the romance novels the old man loves. Bolivar observes the settlers and their machines encroach, dispassionately noting the stupidity of modern man. But when a jaguar begins to stalk the village, Bolivar, who once lived with the Indians, is the only one with the skills to hunt it. Suddenly he is forced to reassess his own place in the jungle world.
