Medimed Doc Market celebrates 24 years of documentary excellence

- With its next edition just around the corner, the event has announced the selection of 60 documentary projects from 20 countries that will take centre stage in Sitges from 12-15 October

The Medimed co-production and co-financing market has become a global platform for both emerging talents and seasoned industry veterans to showcase their diverse array of documentary projects at various stages of development.

The Medimed Doc Market has always been a hub for documentary enthusiasts, and this year is no different. The event will take place in the picturesque town of Sitges, near Barcelona, from 12-15 October, providing a captivating backdrop for the celebration of the documentary art form.

Among the confirmed decision makers for the 2023 edition are industry giants such as 2M TV, ARTE, ARTE GEIE, Al Jazeera English, Al Jazeera Documentary, Al-Arabiya Channel, BBC Arabic, BBC Storyville, France TV, HPT8, Movistar Plus+, POV, RTS, TG4, TRT World, TVC, TVE, TVP and ZDF, to name just a few.

Medimed understands the importance of knowledge sharing in the documentary world. That's why it offers daily industry talks, sponsored by the Creative Europe – MEDIA Office in Catalonia. These discussions cover a wide range of topics that are of interest to industry professionals, providing valuable insights and fostering collaboration within the community.

One of the most highly anticipated segments of Medimed is the central Pitching Forum, where the teams behind 25 selected projects will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to industry experts. These projects promise to offer fresh perspectives on various aspects of life, history and human nature.

Medimed also includes an “anti-pitch” programme, which includes presentations of the most thought-provoking aspects of storytelling, as well as speed pitch meetings and a video library.

Medimed Doc Market is made possible by the support of DIPLOCAT, the Catalan Institute of Cultural Industries (ICEC), the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMED), the Diputació de Barcelona and Sitges City Council. The event's collaboration partners include the Creative Europe – MEDIA Office in Catalonia, Catalan Films, Televisió de Catalunya, the Doha Film Institute, the Centre National du Cinéma et de l'Image de la Tunisie, and the producers associations DAE, DOCMA, PRODOCS, CIMA and Dones Visuals.
