19/09/2023 - The network of independent European distributors will tackle the two topics with significant attention on engaging audiences

Europa Distribution and the San Sebastián International Film Festival are continuing their ongoing collaboration. This year, the partnership will bring together industry experts and independent distributors for an exclusive workshop centred on script analysis, with significant attention on engaging audiences.  

The closed workshop will be split into different days all along the festival, starting on Monday 25 September with an introduction to script analysis and the different approaches to this important step in the potential acquisition of a film, followed by case study sessions, which will continue also on Tuesday 26 September. On that day, the focus will move toward developing scripts for marketing as participants will learn how to grabs the audience’s attention through the use of scripts for web content. On Wednesday 27 September the participants will explore new strategies for acquiring films based on script principles before breaking out into working groups to discuss how the content of the workshop will impact their approaches to reading and pre-buying methods going forward. The sessions will be led by Hanna Lajunen (Cinemanse, Finland) and Nikolaj Mathies (Vievo Media, Denmark) and will take place at the Kursaal.

In light of the partnership between Europa Distribution and the San Sebastián International Film Festival, distributors participating will also attend festival activities such as Work in Progress Screenings from both Europe and Latin America. 

Europa Distribution will continue to organise networking events for distributors and other film professionals, and discuss the unique challenges of promoting and publishing European independent films. The network’s next events will be in partnership with IDFA in Amsterdam on 12-14 November, with EFM in Berlin on 15-21 February 2024 and with Cartoon Movie from 5-7 March 2024. Europa Distribution has also launched the most recent editions of its EDMentorShe, Mentorship, Distributors on the Move and Exchange programmes.
